Hurricane Information &
Tropical Storm Center
Although the third week of May is the Official "Hurricane Awareness Week", for those of us who actually live at, on or near the coast, hurricane awareness is an ongoing, everyday fact of life, and not just during Hurricane Season (June 1st through November 30th). With a little preparation, being "Hurricane Prepared" is not a difficult thing, nor is it very time consuming. All it requires is a little planning, a little shopping and keeping up with the weather both in your local area and in the tropics.
To help you with get prepared, we have compiled some general Hurricane Information such as the explain the Saffir-Simpson Scale used to gauge storm intensities, the names to be used for storms for 2000 thru 2005, a Glossary of Storm and weather related terms and an Emergency Management & Tropical Predication Center Acronym List. We also have some General Guidelines and Sample Shopping lists, along with hints on what to do, what not to do and where to turn, in the event of a disaster. And through a co-operative effort with the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service divisions of NOAA, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency, we have the a copy of the entire Hurricane FAQ provided by the National Hurricane Center.
