Center
It is a good idea to keep, at the very least, a basic "First Aid Kit" at all times. Keep it stocked with fresh bandages, ointments, band-aids, and so forth. A good first-aid kit may save your life or someone you love's life, should a hurricane strike your home.
First Aid Kit Contents
- First-aid manual
- Sterile adhesive bandages in assorted sizes
- A dozen 2-inch sterile gauze pads
- A dozen 3-inch sterile gauze pads
- A couple of rolls of Hypoallergenic medical grade adhesive tape
- Three or more triangular bandages
- Three rolls of 2-inch sterile roller bandages
- Three rolls of 3-inch sterile roller bandages
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Needle, for sewing and removing splinters
- Bar of soap in its own plastic bag or waterproof container, or liquid anti-bacterial soap.
- 50 to 100 packets of moistened towelettes or a few wet cloths in separate plastic bags
- Antiseptic spray
- Hydrogen peroxide, for cleaning wounds
- Rubbing alcohol
- Iodine, for purifying water and disinfecting wounds
- Cortisone cream for rashes
- Sunscreen or Sun Block
- Thermometer
- Petroleum jelly to relieve itching
- Ointments, such as Aloe, for burns and cuts
- Various sizes of safety pins
- Latex gloves
- Aspirin and acetaminophen tablets
- Antacid tablets
Personal Medical Supplies
Store at least a 30 day supply of any medications that you need or take on a regular basis. Ask you doctor to prescribe an extra 30 day supply for you to keep stored in your emergency kit. Many doctors are more than happy to help you get and stay prepared for emergencies.
